Introducing an integrated educational package on sexuality and sexual health for women in a Muslim society

Masoumeh Ebrahimi Tavani MSc, MPH

In most Islamic countries, sexuality, sexual health and sexuality education are still regarded as sensitive issues; They are to be considered as high priority areas in the health programs of some countries. Although Muslim women need to get information about sexuality, there are socio cultural limitations for sexuality education programs.  A special program for women’s empowerment was designed and implemented  by the women’s office at the Iranian Ministry of Interior in the year 2002-2003. This program was followed up by an NGO named “Healthy Family Center” countrywide.
