Gender violence in women: a global social reality (Spanish)

Dr Felipe Hurtado Murillo

Introduction: Violence against women is recognized as a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination, with considerations to hold states responsible, if they do not respond adequately1. The beginning was since the Fourth United Nations Charter on 24 October 1945 that boosted movements worldwide and wanted to ensure that the rights were also achieved for women, because they were at a disadvantage with respect to men. Later, there were treaties, movements, conferences, declarations and global programs which were interested in the subject, changing from a private problem to a social problem2.
