'Birthgasm': A literary review of orgasm as an alternative mode of pain relief in childbirth.

Lorel Mayberry

Childbirth is a significant event. However, the sexuality of orgasm and childbirth is not well recognised in Western Society despite research which shows that some women experience orgasm during labour and childbirth. Current research shows that labour and childbirth are perceived as physically painful events. With increasing rates of caesarean sections, more women are relying on medical intervention for pain relief in labour.

Recorded in October 2012 at the 13th ASSERT National Conference:
'Sexuality: Beyond Difficulties, Definitions and Diversity,' Melbourne, Australia.
