Neuroendocrinology of Sex and Love

Dr D. Narayana Reddy

The human sexual behavior has two major components: precopulatory behavior and copulatory behavior. A related concept, that is important to our understanding the sexual behavior is the role of sexual motivation or sexual desire which triggers other physiological sexual responses. The physiological processes involved in these behaviors are under the control of hypothalamus. Hypothalamus controls the function of the genitals through a process called Neuroendocrine integration. In this process, communication signals are transmitted through the nervous and endocrine systems. The role of the hormones and neurotransmitters in sexual functioning is explained in the presentation.
