Courage, curiosity, engagement - group psychotherapy with sexual offenders sentenced to forensic psychiatric care

Nina Möller

Sexual abuse is an act that provokes hateful reactions, and few crimes are as shameful and despised. If the perpetrator is a parent, the incest taboo is violated, which provokes even stronger feelings. ”Incarceration” might seem to be a proper punishment; however, it can be disputed if this is the best consequence. Offering sexual offenders the opportunity to work through their experiences and difficulties might in fact reduce recidivism.
